Laura graduated summa cum laude from Abilene Christian University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Music with Teacher Certification, having studied piano with Dr. Pauline Bjorem and Dr. Kay Williams and voice with Dr. Marion Cawood and Mr. Samuel Cook.  Shortly thereafter, she established The Wright Music Studio in Abilene, TX and taught weekly private piano, voice, theory, and composition classes to her own students as well as a weekly elementary music class for home schoolers.  During this time, she also became a certified vocal and piano instructor with the Abilene ISD, taught private music lessons at Cooper High School, and worked as an accompanist for the Childrens’ Classical Chorus of Abilene, the A Cappella Alumni Chorus, the A Cappella Chorus, the Cooper High School Concert Choir, and the Abilene High SchoolWomen’s Chorus.  After returning to her hometown of Houston in August 2010, Laura was honored to join the piano faculty of the Houston Music Institute and to bring The Wright Music Studio to Sugar Land, TX. 

Laura is also an active composer, having studied with Dr. Sally Reid and currently with Dr. Ann Rivers Witherspoon. While at ACU, her work for solo piano, “A Bird’s Life,” won “Second Place” and was voted “Audience Favorite” at the M.L. Daniels Composition Competition. Her piece “Sonata No. 1” had won “Third Place” at the same competition the previous year.  In 2008, she was commissioned by the ACU A Cappella Chorus to collaborate with two other composers to produce a choral work written in dedication to the alumni chorus.  This piece, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” was performed on their fall concert, Laura having written the principal movement.  Since that time, she has written for school choirs, small ensembles, and soloists.  In 2010, she received a commission from the Houston Christian High School Chorus and responded with the piece “The Beauty of Liberty” which was premiered in New York’s Carnegie Hall March 2011 and was again performed in concert April 2011. Most recently, her chamber ensemble piece, “Rhapsodies for Flute, Piano and Cello,“ won distinguished honors at the TMTA Convention: “First Place” in the TMTA Composition Contest, and “First Place” (Texas) and “Honorable Mention” (Regional) in the MTNA Composition Contest. 

Laura is affiliated with the Houston Area Suzuki Piano Association (Officer), the Music Teachers' National Association, the Texas Music Teachers' Association, and the Houston Music Teachers' Association (Board of Directors).
